Kundalini

Kundalini Yoga, according to the Divine Life Society of India, is the "coiled up, dormant, cosmic power that underlies all organic and inorganic matter within us"

Kundalini yoga works by focusing on the chakras of the body to generate spiritual power or Kundalini energy. Kundalini energy is said to be dormant in the body, which is often likened to a snake that is coiled up at the base of the spine until a person engages in Kundalini Yoga in order to begin to rouse that dormant spiritual energy.

In Kundalini Yoga, participants use specific techniques to concentrate the life force in order to raise the dormant Kundalini energy through all seven Chakras. The first Chakra lives at the base of the spine, and the seventh Chakra lives at the top of the skull through breathing Kundalini yoga.

Kundalini yoga DVD’s and Kundalini yoga videos are a great way to allow individuals to continue their yoga practice in the comfort of their own homes, and to learn Kundalini yoga. They can follow each Kundalini yoga sequence
that they see on the video and practice it at their own pace. Some DVD’s focus on Kundalini yoga weight loss.

There are also many web sites that provide free Kundalini yoga exercises. Some exercises focus on maintaining a strong, flexible spine. Most routines begin with pranayama or breathing exercises to allow the person to center and relax and begin to get in tune with the Yoga routine. After pranayama there might be also be a time of chanting. After being guided carefully through each asana, with illustrations of each pose, and sometimes even with animation, there is a closing chant and a time of meditation on relaxation pose.

Kundalini awakening sahaja yoga, or spontaneous Yoga, is a spiritual awakening that happens beyond the volition of the participant, and can manifest itself through spinal rockings, or shaking, exctatic movements of the body.

Those who are interested in becoming a Kundalini yoga teacher will want to find out about Kundalini yoga teacher training programs. These programs range from the minimal 200 hours or training and preparation to as many as 500 hours of training. Some teacher training courses take place in person at a Kundalini yoga center or participants can take the course online through distance learning programs.

For those who are ready to go deeper in their Yoga practice, and learn to develop the powerful forces that lay dormant within them, then Kundalini Yoga might be a path that they will want to explore more fully.
