Aromatherapy Oils

The history of aromatherapy essential oils begins in the days of ancient china when people refined the oils from specific plants for their distinct aroma and used them for healing and medicinal applications. Some of these oils were used to create incense that was burned to clear the atmosphere and set a certain mood.

The Greeks and Egyptians also developed and used essential oils for the practice of aromatherapy, although it was not so called until the 20th century when scientist began to experiment and test the effects of essential oils on human beings.

Today knowledge of aromatherapy is becoming more and more widespread. People buy candles, incense and aromatherapy oils with particular fragrances to set a particular tone or mood in their homes or places of work.

Aromatherapy essential oils are widely available for purchase, and people can even purchase the base aromatherapy carrier oils and then concoct their own essential oils aromatherapy recipes to suit their own needs. Aromatherapy oil kits can be used by those who are a bit adventurous and want to develop their own scents.

Organic aromatherapy oil are available for those who are concerned about the purity of oils that are refined from plants that were grown using chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Organic aromatherapy oils tend to be a bit more expensive than those that are not certified organic.

Aromatherapy oil burners often have a small receptacle at their base that holds a tea light candle, and then suspended above the flame is a glass dish that holds the essential oils. As the flame warms the glass dish, the scent gets disbursed throughout the space. Another type of aromatherapy oil burner is a ceramic vessel with an opening down below for the candle and a metal bowl above the flame to hold the oil.

Down through the years aromatherapy practitioners have developed their own special recipes for specific ailments and to create certain states of mind, or set a particular atmospheric mood. There are what's called the "Basic Four" aroma therapy oils that can be used in different combinations with each other and other products to produce remedies. These include Lavender, Rosemary, Tea Tree and Eucalyptus aromatherapy essential oil.

You can purchase aromatherapy oil from your local health food store or they are also available over the Internet.

Aromatherapy and essential oils can be added to bath water, you can add some to unscented liquid soaps, create your own uniquely scented body oil, or lotion, or body mist. You can create special massage oils by adding aromatherapy oils to a carrier oil such as jojoba, and you can add essential oils to shampoos and conditioners.
