Tantric Yoga

What is tantric yoga? In tantric yoga participants learn to harness and control the power of their sexual energy. Tantra yogs tends to be one of the styles of yoga most fraught with controversy. One of the basic principals of Yoga is the denial of physical desires, but Tantra yoga encourages the deep exploration of sexual desire. But don't be misled. Tantra yoga is not all about the sex. It also explores the internal or spiritual aspects of Yoga.

Tantric yoga positions are similar to other yoga positions, but tantric yoga teachers help their students to use, focus and channel their energies in different ways.

Tantric Kriya yoga refers to certain practices, or "kriyas", which help participants to open up their chakras and purify the nadi system of the body. There is an entire Tantric Kriya video series available that expands on these ideas and presents specific techniques.

The asanas uses in tantra yoga help to initiate changes in the physical body that encourage the secretion of more sexual hormones, which in turn increases sexual desire and potency. As in other styles of Yoga, tantra helps to increase flexibility, strength and suppleness in the muscles.

Using Pranayama techniques with tantra yoga positions increases the body's oxygen supply, which can’t be bad for sexual performance.

Again, Tantric yoga exercises are good for your overall health not just to improve your sex life, but many people who are experiencing difficulties in their sex lives turn to tantra to find a solution and find that the benefits can be seen in many areas of their lives.

If your local Yoga studio does not offer tantra yoga classes, you can purchase a Tantric yoga video that has information about tantra yoga, exercise routines, and tips on using tantra techniques to improve sexual performance. There are dozens of web sites with tantric yoga photo.

One of the basic principles of tantric practice involves achieving prolonged intercourse without ejaculation. This practice of coitus reservatus, or karezza, which is a term coined by Alice Bunker Stockham, is designed to maintain and intensify desire in long term relationships. Through the control of breathing, meditation practice, work with asanas and finger pressure during intercourse, the male partner is able to sustain the point of climax without actually ejaculating and allowing for a more prolonged sexual encounter. So, while orgasm and ejaculation customarily occur simultaneously, men can learn through practice to reach orgasm and sustain it for a long period of time through the practice of tantra yoga. The Kama Sutra, that ancient Hindu sex manual covers this in great detail.
